Memory Verse
“And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.”
Exodus 3:2 (KJV)
INTRODUCTION
There are seasons when God draws us away from the noise of life so that He can speak to us personally.
Moses encountered God at the backside of the desert while tending sheep. What seemed like a lonely and insignificant place became the place of divine encounter, revelation, and commissioning.
Many people fear solitude, but some of the greatest moments of transformation happen when we are alone with God. Before Moses could stand before Pharaoh, he first had to stand before God.
Exodus 3:4
“And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.”
The encounter began when Moses turned aside. God often speaks when we deliberately make time for Him.
1. ALONE WITH GOD CREATES DIVINE ENCOUNTERS
Moses was alone when God revealed Himself through the burning bush.
The wilderness that appeared to be a place of obscurity became a place of destiny.
Luke 5:16
“And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.”
Even Jesus regularly withdrew to spend time with the Father.
Private encounters with God prepare us for public assignments.
2. ALONE WITH GOD HELPS US HEAR HIS VOICE
God called Moses by name.
Exodus 3:4
“Moses, Moses.”
This reminds us that God knows us personally. He knows our struggles, fears, and future.
Isaiah 43:1
“I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.”
When we quiet the noise around us, we become more sensitive to the voice of God.
3. ALONE WITH GOD REVEALS OUR PURPOSE
God’s encounter with Moses was not merely emotional; it was purposeful.
Exodus 3:10
“Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh.”
Moses thought he had been forgotten, but God had been preparing him.
Your season of waiting may actually be a season of preparation for God’s purpose.
4. ALONE WITH GOD OVERCOMES FEAR AND INADEQUACY
Moses immediately questioned his ability.
Exodus 3:11
“Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh?”
God responded:
Exodus 3:12
“Certainly I will be with thee.”
God’s answer to our weakness is His presence.
When God is with us, our limitations no longer determine our future.
5. ALONE WITH GOD REVEALS WHO HE IS
Moses asked God His name.
Exodus 3:14
“I AM THAT I AM.”
God revealed Himself as the eternal, all-sufficient One.
The more time we spend with God, the more we discover His power, faithfulness, and greatness.
6. ALONE WITH GOD EMPOWERS US FOR OUR ASSIGNMENT
God used the rod already in Moses’ hand to perform miracles.
Exodus 4:2
“What is that in thine hand?”
God often begins with what we already possess.
When surrendered to Him, ordinary abilities become instruments of extraordinary impact.
7. ALONE WITH GOD BRINGS DIRECTION
Many people struggle with confusion because they listen to too many voices.
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
In God’s presence, we receive clarity, wisdom, and direction for life’s decisions.
8. ALONE WITH GOD REQUIRES OBEDIENCE
An encounter with God must produce action.
James 1:22
“Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only.”
Moses obeyed God’s call, confronted Pharaoh, and fulfilled his assignment.
The purpose of hearing God’s voice is to obey it.
KEY LESSONS FROM THE BURNING BUSH
- God meets people in unexpected places.
- The wilderness can become a place of preparation.
- God knows your name and understands your situation.
- God’s presence is greater than your weaknesses.
- God calls ordinary people to extraordinary assignments.
- Private encounters produce public victories.
- God can use what is already in your hand.
- Genuine encounters with God produce obedience.
CONCLUSION
Moses entered the wilderness as a shepherd and left as a deliverer.
The turning point of his life was not found in Egypt’s palace but in God’s presence.
The answer to our struggles is not always greater strength or better strategies. Sometimes the answer is simply spending more time with God.
Make room for Him.
Create time to pray.
Create time to read His Word.
Create time to listen.
Create time to worship.
A place of solitude can become a place of revelation, and a place of revelation can become a place of divine commissioning.
CHALLENGE
This week, set aside a specific time each day to be alone with God. Turn off distractions, open your Bible, pray, and listen for His voice.
Are you ready to be alone with Him?
CLOSING PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us of the importance of spending time alone with You. Draw us closer to Your presence and teach us to hear Your voice clearly. Remove every distraction that hinders our fellowship with You.
Like Moses, prepare us for the assignments You have called us to fulfill. Help us trust Your presence more than our abilities and obey Your instructions without hesitation.
May our private encounters with You produce public testimonies. Let our lives reflect Your glory, power, and purpose. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray.
