How to Handle Life’s Storms
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
Mark 4:37–38 (KJV)
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

NARRATIVE
A storm, in its broadest sense, is a violent disturbance or upheaval. Storms are a universal experience—they occur in every life. There are many kinds of storms: marital storms, financial storms, health storms, career storms, ministerial storms, and many others. Any of these can significantly affect a person’s life, and in many cases, unresolved storms have driven people into depression, emotional breakdown, or even suicide.
As children of God, Scripture makes it clear that we are not exempt from life’s storms. Hebrews 12:5–6 reminds us:
“My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”
This teaches us that storms in the believer’s life are not signs of abandonment but often instruments of God’s loving discipline. God uses life’s storms to refine our character, produce godly virtues, and shape us into vessels fit for His purposes.
Every saint recorded in Scripture faced personal storms. What distinguished them was not the absence of adversity, but their response to it. Their attitude in the storm produced testimonies that glorified God. Anyone whom God calls His child and assigns a purpose will, at some point, be led into seasons of testing that prepare them for destiny—and ultimately for eternity.
Sadly, many professing believers fail to seek God’s grace to endure trials and persecutions. They lack perseverance and forget that storms are part of life. Faith in Christ does not exempt believers from storms; rather, it equips them to overcome. If Jesus Christ—the Son of God—faced storms and triumphed, then we too can overcome by following His example.
The Scriptures assure us in Galatians 6:9:
“…for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Victory belongs to those who endure, those who allow God to be glorified through their trials. As children of God, we must hold firmly to this truth: Jesus will never abandon us—especially in the storm. In our anchor Scripture, though the disciples were fearful, Jesus was present in the boat, and His presence guaranteed their deliverance.
